How do I turn on Auto-role when someone joins?
Turn on the Auto-Role on Join switch on the Features page. It gives every new member your Waitlist Role the moment they arrive. You pick that role on the Front Office page — the switch only decides whether it is handed out.
Where to find it
On the website: open your league, click Features in the sidebar, and find the Auto-Role on Join switch.
In the app: tap More, then Features, and find the Auto-Role on Join switch.
What it does
Gives every new member your starter role the moment they join the server.
Step by step
- Pick the role first: open Front Office in the sidebar, stay on the Special Roles tab, choose a role for Waitlist Role, and click Save Special Roles.
- Check the bot's own role sits above that role in Discord's role list — Discord only lets the bot hand out roles below its own.
- Go to Features and turn Auto-Role on Join on.
- Back on Front Office → Special Roles, a green banner confirms it: "New members automatically get @your role when they join." Have somebody join, or test with an alt, and check the role lands.
Why it matters more than it looks
A new member with no roles usually cannot see anything. They join, find an empty server, and leave — and your departures channel shows somebody who lasted four minutes.
Handing out one role at the door is what makes the server visible to them. It is the cheapest retention fix in the product.
Common problems
- New members get nothing. Either the switch is off, no Waitlist Role is picked on Front Office → Special Roles, or the bot's role sits below it in Discord.
- They got the role but still see nothing. The role itself has no channel permissions. This hands out the role; what the role can see is Discord's side.
- Can it give more than one? This hands out the starter role at the door. The rest of the role chain follows from claiming a team.
- Members who already had the role. Turning the switch off never takes roles away — it only stops handing them to new arrivals.
- I can't see this setting. If you are a helper rather than the licence owner, the owner controls which pages you see under Front Office → League Access. Ask them to grant you access.
