Where to find it
On the website: open your league, click Features in the sidebar, and find the Reaction Roles switch. The panel builder is on Front Office, under the Self-Pick Roles tab.
In the app: tap More, then Features, and find the Reaction Roles switch.
What it does
Members grab roles themselves by tapping a reaction on a message the bot posts. Tapping the reaction again removes the role, so members can opt out the same way they opted in.
Step by step
- Go to Features and turn Reaction Roles on. (If you head straight to the panel builder while it is off, a warning offers a Switch On Reaction Roles button right there — same switch.)
- Open Front Office in the sidebar and choose the Self-Pick Roles tab.
- In Create a Panel, pick the Channel, write the Message Title and Message Text, and choose whether members get One Role Each or Any Combination. Click Create Panel.
- Under Your Panels, add an emoji-to-role choice for each role you are handing out. A panel holds up to 20 choices.
- Check the bot's own role sits above every role you are handing out in Discord's role list, then react yourself to test.
What to use it for
The good uses are roles nobody needs permission for: ping me for game reminders, ping me for trades, I stream, I am available for scrims.
The bad use is anything that grants access or status. A member should not be able to give themselves a commissioner-adjacent role by tapping an emoji, and Team-Role Autopilot will fight you over anything team-related.
Common problems
- Reacting does nothing. Check the Reaction Roles switch is on — while it is off, tapping gives nobody a role. After that, it is nearly always the bot's role sitting below the role it is trying to hand out.
- The message lost its reactions. If the message was deleted and remade, build the panel again — the bot watches a specific message.
- A member kept the role after un-reacting. Check the bot can still remove roles, and that the role is not also being handed out by something else.
- I deleted a panel — did members lose their roles? No. Members who already got roles keep them; the panel just stops handing out more.
- I can't see this setting. If you are a helper rather than the licence owner, the owner controls which pages you see under Front Office → League Access. Ask them to grant you access.
