How do I use Team Claims?
Team Claims lets members call dibs on a team before the league starts. It lives in the Teams Hub, on the Team Claims tab: post the claim board into a channel members can see, and decide whether claiming also hands out the team's Discord role.
Where to find it
On the website: open the Teams Hub in the sidebar, then the Team Claims tab.
On your phone: More → Teams, then pick Team Claims from the Choose a section dropdown.
When to use it — and when not to
This is a before-kickoff tool. The tab itself says so: best before kickoff. Members use it to get dibs on a team while you are organising the league.
Once the season is running, use the Team Assignments tab instead. Claims are for the start line, not for mid-season changes.
Step by step
- Under The Claim Board in Discord, pick the Channel the board should live in. A welcome or start-here channel works best, because it has to be visible to somebody who has just joined and has no roles yet.
- Press Post the board. Members pick their team from that board. Once it is up, the tab confirms which channel it is live in, and Refresh the board re-draws it if it ever looks stale.
Under it is Keep the board up to date, on unless you turn it off. Off, the board in Discord stops redrawing itself whenever a claim changes — claims are still recorded exactly as before, and Refresh the board still redraws it when you press it. It is a way to stop the board flickering during a busy claim night, not a way to stop claiming.
- Decide about Grant Discord team roles on claim, the tick box under Who Can Bump Whom. It is off by default. With it off, the claim is recorded but nobody is given a Discord role — you hand roles out yourself. Tick it if you want the bot to do it, then press Save hierarchy.
- Leave the ranking table empty unless you actually want bumping. With no ranks set, every open team is first come, first served — that is the sensible default.
- Try it yourself with a spare account if you have one. It is worth seeing what a new member sees.
Who Can Bump Whom
The ranking table decides who can take a team off somebody else — nothing more.
Rank 1 is the top and can bump anyone below it. A lower rank number bumps a higher one, and equal ranks cannot bump each other. Add rows with + Add row, pick a Discord role for each, and press Save hierarchy.
Leave the table empty and nobody can bump anybody. Only set it up if you mean it — with ranks in place, a higher-ranked member really can take an owned team.
One more rule to know: claiming a new team releases the one you hold. Nobody ends up with two.
The rest of the tab
- Every Team, and Who Holds It — the whole league, conference by conference, with each team's current holder or an Open badge. There is a Claim button on every row.
- Give out team roles in Discord — one press that gives every owner the role for the team they have claimed. Useful when you ran the claim phase with role-granting off and want to hand everything out at the end.
- Match roles to claims — lines the recorded claims and the Discord roles back up if they have drifted.
- Release my claim — lets go of your own team.
Common problems
- Members say they cannot claim. The single most common cause: the board is sitting in a channel a brand-new member cannot see. Move it somewhere visible to people with no roles yet.
- Claims work but nobody gets a team role. Grant Discord team roles on claim is off — that is its default. Tick it and save, or press Give out team roles in Discord to catch everyone up at once.
- Somebody took a team that was already owned. That is the ranking table doing what it is for. If you do not want bumping, remove the rows and save.
- The board is not keeping up with the claims. Keep the board up to date is switched off. The claims themselves are fine — press Refresh the board to catch it up, or turn the switch back on.
