Short answer
Dashboard → your server → XP → the Upgrades tab. The How Upgrades Work card at the top has one choice — whether owners pick the exact stat they are buying, or pay and let the game roll the stats for them — and the What Owners Can Buy card switches attribute and dev upgrades on or off for the whole league.
Where to find it
On the website: Dashboard → your server → XP → the Upgrades tab
In the app: More → XP, then pick Upgrades from the XP sections dropdown
What this setting is for
This is the most important decision in the XP economy, because it changes what every price means. Set it before you spend time on numbers.
The two styles
The Upgrade Style dropdown has exactly two options:
- Owners pick the stat and pay for it — an owner runs
/upgrade, picks a player, picks one rating and pays the price you set in What Upgrades Cost. Predictable, and easy for members to plan around. - Owners pay and the game rolls the stat — an owner pays and a package of stat bumps is rolled for them, the way progression feels in Madden itself. There is a little luck in it, and the cost is worked out for the owner rather than taken from your per-stat prices.
Pick one and press Save The Upgrade Style.
What owners can buy
The What Owners Can Buy card is separate from the style, and applies to both:
- Attribute Upgrades — off, and
/upgradepolitely refuses rating upgrades for everybody. - Dev Upgrades — off, and the same for a dev upgrade from any tier.
- Age Resets — take years off a player, down to 20.
- Contract Adjustments — change the years left on a deal.
- Clear Salary Cap — clears a team's salary cap penalties. It is bought for the whole team, not a player, so there is no player to pick.
The first two start on. This is the switch to use if you want to stop all rating upgrades — do not untick fifty stats one at a time. The last three start off, and each has its own card further down the tab with its price and how many a team can buy in a season. Press Save What They Can Buy when you are done.
Age resets, contract adjustments and Clear Salary Cap never change your game on their own. The XP is taken, a request lands in your upgrade-requests channel and on the Pending Upgrades tab, and you make the change in Madden yourself.
Step by step
- Open XP → the Upgrades tab.
- In How Upgrades Work, pick your Upgrade Style and press Save The Upgrade Style.
- In What Owners Can Buy, set the two switches and press Save What They Can Buy.
- If owners pick their own stats, work through What Upgrades Cost next — see Setting prices and payouts.
Common problems
- I set prices and owners are paying something else. On the style where the game rolls the stat, the per-stat prices are not used — the cost is worked out for the owner. Check the Upgrade Style dropdown to see which one you are on.
- Owners say
/upgraderefuses them. Check the two switches in What Owners Can Buy before anything else — one of them being off is the usual cause. - Upgrades sit waiting and nobody clears them. The queue and the people allowed to clear it are on the Pending Upgrades tab of the same Hub.
- This tab is missing from my sidebar. The XP feature is switched off — turn it on at Features → XP.
