How does the team waitlist work?
The queue of members waiting for a team, in order. It lives on Teams → Team Assignments, in the Who Is Waiting for a Team section. You can add someone, remove someone, or take the person at the front off the top when you hand them a seat.
Where to find it
On the website: press Teams in the sidebar, open the Team Assignments tab, and scroll down to Who Is Waiting for a Team.
On your phone: tap More → Teams, pick Team Assignments from the Choose a section dropdown, and scroll down.
What this section is for
Members put themselves in the queue with the Join Waitlist button on the teams board in Discord. This is the commissioner's side of the same queue: the order, when each person joined, and the buttons to act on it.
When a team opens, the bot pings the queue in your Open-Team Pings Channel — that channel is picked at the top of this same tab, on the teams board card. The order is only a record of who asked first: nobody is ever handed a team automatically. Giving the seat out is always your decision.
Step by step
- The Team Waitlist card has the master switch — Let members join the waitlist. Leave it on and press Save if you change it.
- To put somebody in by hand, use Add Someone to the Waitlist: pick them from the member list, leave the position box blank to add them at the end, or type a number to slot them in and push everyone below them down. Press Add.
- To take somebody out, press Remove on their row in The Queue. They can join again themselves from the board.
- When you hand the front person their team, press Pop first to take them off the top.
The same jobs work from Discord too: /team waitlist add, /team waitlist remove and /team waitlist pop.
What "Pop first" does and does not do
It removes the person at the front of the queue. That is all it does — it does not give them a team, it does not hand out a Discord role, and it does not tell them anything.
Do the actual handover first — give them the team role — then pop.
You often will not need it: somebody who takes a team comes off the queue by themselves.
Common problems
- Nobody can see the Join Waitlist button. The Let members join the waitlist switch is off. While it is off nobody can queue and open-team pings stop. The card says so in words when that is the case.
- One member says there is no Join Waitlist button. If everyone else can see it, they already have a team — pressing it just answers that they already have one. That includes somebody who claimed a team without ever being given a Discord team role, which is the case that confuses people.
- The queue emptied itself. People drop off when they take a team. That is it working.
- Nobody is getting pinged. Three things to check, in this order. Post in the pings channel at all may be switched off — that silences the whole channel, including the waitlist reminders and the bot's own notices, not just the pings. Ping when a team opens may be off, which announces open teams quietly and stops the reminders. And the pings go to the Open-Team Pings Channel, picked on the teams board card at the top of this tab — with no channel there, there is nowhere to ping.
