What it does

Madden retires players quietly. Somebody's franchise legend hangs it up and nobody in your Discord ever hears about it. This turns that into a moment: a card per retiring player, best players first, in a channel of your choosing — and a permanent list afterwards.

Nothing happens on a timer. You press the button when you are ready, which means retirements land after you have advanced rather than in the middle of your week.

The three parts of the tab

  • Announcement Channel — where the cards post. Nothing else on the tab works until this is set.
  • Post the Newly Retired — checks your league for anybody who has hung it up since the last time you looked, and posts a card for each.
  • Retired Players — the archive, showing the top 25 by overall rating out of everybody you have ever announced.

Step by step

  1. Pick a channel and press the save button. It reads Post them here the first time and Move them here afterwards.
  2. Advance your league in Madden and export.
  3. Come back and press Post the newly retired.
  4. Read the confirmation. It tells you how many cards went out, or says the scan found nobody new.

The switch that stops it

Once a channel is picked, a Post retirement cards switch appears under it. It is on unless you turn it off, and there is nothing to switch before a channel exists.

Off is a full stop, not just silence. The scan does not run at all: nothing is posted, and nobody is added to the archive either. Pressing Post the newly retired tells you the feature is switched off, and running /retirement run in Discord says the same thing and points you back to Teams → Retirements.

That is deliberate. A scan that posted nothing but still filed everybody away would quietly cost you the announcement for every one of those players, permanently — the bot never announces the same player twice.

Nobody is ever announced twice

The bot remembers who it has already announced. Run it twice in a row and the second run posts nothing — that is correct, not a failure.

Start the list over clears that memory so the next run re-checks every player from the beginning. Even then, anybody already sitting in the archive is not announced again. It is a repair tool for when a run went to the wrong channel, not something to press routinely.

It needs a connected league

Until you have picked a channel, the posting buttons do not appear — the card says "Pick a channel above first" instead. And even with a channel set, the tab will tell you if no league is connected. Retirements are read out of your exported league — with nothing connected there is nothing to check.

Common problems

  • The posting buttons are not there. Pick an announcement channel and save it. They appear immediately.
  • It says retirement announcements are switched off. Post retirement cards is off. Turn it back on and run it again — nothing was missed, because the scan never ran.
  • It says no league is connected. Connect your league first. The tab has nothing to read until then.
  • It says EA did not send back every roster. The scan stopped itself on purpose. Nobody was announced and nothing changed — wait a few minutes and press it again.
  • The scan finished but posted nothing. Nobody has newly retired since the last run. That is the normal answer most weeks.
  • The channel line says the bot can no longer see that channel. The channel was deleted, or the bot lost permission to read it. Pick a new one from the list and save.
  • The archive is empty. It only fills in once you have posted your first round of retirements.
  • There is a plan notice on the tab. Posting retirement cards is part of the Pro plan or better.
