How do I set up time zone roles?
One press posts a message with six buttons — PST, MST, CST, EST, GMT and Other — and members tap one to tag themselves with their time zone. It lives in the Front Office Hub, on the Self-Pick Roles tab, under Time Zone Roles. Set it up once and you never come back.
Where to find it
On the website: open the Front Office Hub in the sidebar, then the Self-Pick Roles tab, and scroll to Time Zone Roles.
On your phone: More → Front Office, then pick Self-Pick Roles from the Choose a section dropdown.
What this is for
Knowing when people are actually around. In a 32-team league the hardest part of a week is not playing the game, it is finding an hour both owners are awake for. A time zone tag on everybody turns that from three days of messages into a glance.
The bot uses it too: the matchup banner in a game channel shows each owner's time zone next to their name, so both players can see the problem before they start negotiating.
Step by step
- Under Time Zone Roles, pick the Channel the message should live in. Somewhere everybody can see — a rules or welcome channel works well.
- Press Set Up Time Zone Roles.
- The bot creates a role per time zone if it does not already have one, posts the message, and you are done.
- Tell your league to tap a button once.
What it creates
Six Discord roles, named TZ: PST, TZ: MST, TZ: CST, TZ: EST, TZ: GMT and TZ: Other. If roles with those exact names already exist, it uses them rather than making duplicates.
Members can hold one at a time. Tapping a different button takes the old one off and puts the new one on, so nobody ends up in three time zones at once. There is nothing to police.
Repost the Message and Remove the Setup
Repost the Message posts the message again. Use it if the buttons stop responding or the message was edited or lost.
Remove the Setup disconnects the whole thing. It does not delete the roles from Discord — anybody who has one keeps it, and you can delete them yourself if you want them gone. Setting it up again later is another single press.
Common problems
- The buttons do nothing. The bot's role sits below the
TZ:roles in Discord's role list, so it is not allowed to hand them out. Drag it above them. - A member says their time zone role was deleted. It was, in Discord. The bot tells them so rather than failing at them forever. Press Set Up Time Zone Roles again to re-create it.
- The message vanished. If it was deleted, press Set Up Time Zone Roles again — the bot watches one specific message.
- I want more time zones than the six. The six are fixed. Other is the catch-all for everybody outside them.
- Nothing happened when I pressed setup. Check the bot can post in the channel you picked.
