How do I welcome new members automatically?

Where to find it
On the website: open your league, click Moderation in the sidebar, then open the Joining & Leaving tab. It is the first card.
On your phone: More → Moderation, then pick Joining & Leaving from the dropdown at the top of the page.
Step by step
- Make or pick a channel your whole server can read. This one is public — it is not the commissioners-only join log.
- Set Welcome Channel to it.
- Write your Welcome Message. Two things get filled in for you:
{user}becomes the new member's name.{server}becomes your league's name.
- Leave Welcome New Members switched on.
- Press Save Welcome Settings.
Test it by having somebody join, or by leaving and rejoining yourself.
What the card looks like
A green card with the member's picture, a big Welcome, [their name]! line, your league's name, a tag so they get a notification, and then your message underneath.
Roles on join are on the same card
Roles Given On Join sits below the message. Everybody who joins gets these roles automatically.
It is a separate setting from the welcome card. Turning the welcome off does not stop the roles being handed out, and having no welcome message does not stop them either.
The switch that stops the card
Welcome New Members sits at the top of the card. It is on unless you turn it off.
Off, no welcome card is posted for anybody. Your channel and your message are both kept, so switching it back on starts the welcomes again exactly as you wrote them.
Everything else carries on exactly as before:
- Roles are still given on join.
- Your join and departure cards still post — those are the next card down, with their own switches.
- Nothing about the member is changed, and nothing is deleted.
Common problems
- Nobody is being welcomed. In this order: is Welcome New Members on, is a Welcome Channel picked, and is the Welcome Message actually filled in. An empty message is the one people miss — the bot will not post an empty card.
- The message shows
{user}instead of a name. Check the spelling. It is lower case, in curly brackets, with nothing inside but the word. - The card posts in the wrong place. You have set the Member Joins Channel rather than the Welcome Channel. They are different: the welcome is public and friendly, the join card is the commissioners-only record of who arrived and how.
- It stopped working. Check the channel still exists and the bot can still post in it. Welcome cards also need an active licence — if the licence lapsed, they stop.
- I can't see this setting. Ask your league owner — the tabs a helper can open are set in Front Office → League Access, in the Tab Access list.
