How do I set up Moderation log?

Pick a private channel and everything the bot does to keep the server clean gets written there. The picker lives in the Moderation Hub, on the Moderation Log tab. Set it before you need it — it does not record anything retroactively.

Where to find it

On the website: open your league, click Moderation in the sidebar, then open the Moderation Log tab. The picker is at the top of the Moderation Log Channel card.

On your phone: More → Moderation, then pick Moderation Log from the dropdown at the top of the page.

What it does

Everything the bot does to keep the server clean lands here: warnings, kicks, bans and spam removals, banned-invite detections, and EA name changes.

Step by step

  1. Make a channel only commissioners can see. This carries deleted messages and warnings.
  2. On the Moderation Log tab, set Moderation Log Channel to it and press Save These Channels.
  3. Check the bot can post in it, then leave it alone until you need it.

The switches on this card

Write To The Moderation Log is the on-off for the record itself. It is on unless you turn it off.

Turning it off does not turn moderation off. The bot still deletes spam, still warns people, still kicks and bans exactly as before — it just stops writing any of it down. Your channel choice is kept, so switching it back on picks up where it left off.

Log Deleted And Edited Messages copies removed and edited messages into the log. It is on unless you turn it off, and it needs Write To The Moderation Log on above it — with the master switch off, nothing is copied either.

Keep A Copy Of Finished Game Channels decides whether a game channel's chat is saved before the bot deletes the channel. It is the same switch that appears on the Gameday Hub's After the Game tab — one setting shown in two places, so changing it in either place changes both.

Press Save These Channels when you are done.

Three logs, not one

The tab holds three different records, and each gets its own channel:

  • Moderation Log Channel — what the bot did to members and messages. This article.
  • Game Channel Archive — saves a game channel's chat before the bot deletes the channel.
  • Commissioner Log Channel — what the people running the league did: force-wins, settled bets, role overrides.

Make the moderation log private. It quotes messages that were deleted, which means anybody who can read the channel can read things that were removed — including the thing somebody was warned for.

It starts from the moment you set it. There is no history to recover, so setting it up on the day you need it is the day you find out it was empty.

The commissioner log, and how to turn it off

The Commissioner Log Channel card has its own switch, Write Down Commissioner Actions, on unless you turn it off. Off, commissioner actions go unrecorded and the channel stays saved. Press Save Commissioner Log to save that card — it is a separate button from the one above it.

You can also just clear the channel now. Leaving that card's channel picker empty and saving used to be refused; it clears the setting properly now, so a league that never wanted this log can finally get rid of it.

Common problems

  • It is empty. Either nothing has happened yet, or it was set after the incident you are looking for. It does not backfill.
  • Members can read it. Fix that now. It quotes deleted messages.
  • Something happened and was not logged. First check Write To The Moderation Log is on — with it off, the bot carries on moderating and writes none of it down. Otherwise: the bot logs what the bot did, and something a human commissioner did in Discord directly is Discord's own audit log, not this one.
  • I can't see this setting. Ask your league owner — the tabs a helper can open are set in Front Office → League Access, in the Tab Access list.
