How do I set up Game channel archive?
Pick a channel and every finished game channel's chat is saved there as a thread before the bot deletes the channel. Leave it blank, or switch it off, and finished game channels are deleted with nothing kept.
Where to find it
On the website: click Gameday in the sidebar, then the After the Game tab. The setting is Game channel archive.
On your phone: More → Gameday, then pick After the Game from the section dropdown.
The same setting also appears in the Moderation Hub, on the Moderation Log tab, as Game Channel Archive. It is one setting shown in two places — change it in either and both follow.
What it does
Game channels are temporary. Once a matchup is done the channel is deleted, and the trash talk, the screenshots and the argument about that fourth-down call go with it.
With an archive channel set, the bot copies the conversation into a thread in that channel first, named after the game channel it came from. The channel is then deleted as normal. What you keep is a readable record; what you lose is a server slowly filling up with dead channels.
Step by step
- Make a channel for it.
#game-archiveis the usual name. Commissioners-only is the safer choice, but plenty of leagues let members read it back. - On the After the Game tab, set Game channel archive to that channel and press Save channel.
- Check the switch underneath — Keep a copy of finished game channels — is on.
- Play a week out. The copies appear on their own as each matchup finishes.
The switch
Keep a copy of finished game channels is on unless you turn it off.
Off, a finished game channel is deleted without its chat being saved to the archive — the same thing that happens when no archive channel is picked at all. Your channel choice is kept, so turning it back on needs nothing else.
This is the same switch as the one on the Moderation Log tab, under Game Channel Archive. There is only ever one answer stored.
When you clear a week by hand
Clearing a whole week's game channels at once also posts a short list of links to the saved conversations, so you can find them again without scrolling the archive.
Common problems
- Nothing is being saved. Either no archive channel is picked, or Keep a copy of finished game channels is off. Both have the same result.
- The archive channel is full of threads. That is the design — one thread per matchup. Threads go quiet on their own and stop cluttering the channel list.
- A game channel vanished with no copy. It finished while the archive was off or unset. There is nothing to recover; Discord does not keep deleted channels.
- Members can read it. Only if the channel lets them. Move it somewhere private if you would rather they could not read old game chat back.
- I can't see this setting. Ask your league owner — the tabs a helper can open are set in Front Office → League Access, in the Tab Access list.
