How do I set up New-member help channel?
Pick the channel new members are pointed to when the bot reminds them to link their Madden account and claim a team. The bot never posts into this channel itself — it names it inside the reminder, so point it somewhere a human will actually answer.
Where to find it
On the website: open Moderation in the sidebar, then the Joining & Leaving tab. The picker is on the Telling You Who Came And Went card: New-Member Help Channel.
On your phone: More → Moderation → Choose a section → Joining & Leaving.
Step by step
- Pick the channel where you actually help people — usually
#help,#start-hereor#general. - On the Joining & Leaving tab, set New-Member Help Channel and press Save These Channels.
- Make sure new members can both read and post in it. Being sent somewhere they cannot speak is worse than not being sent anywhere.
When it is used
The reminder that names this channel is the warning sent to people who joined your server but never claimed a team — part of the Auto-Kick Unclaimed Joiners feature on the Features page. If that feature is off, nothing points at this channel today, and it is safe to leave unset.
Left unset with the feature on, the bot falls back to your announcements channel if you have one, and otherwise the reminder simply does not point anywhere.
Common problems
- New members say they were sent nowhere. The channel is not set, so the reminder has no channel to name.
- They were sent somewhere they cannot post. Check the channel's permissions for your newest-member role, not for yourself. You can almost certainly post everywhere.
- I want the bot to DM them instead. The reminder already arrives as a direct message — this setting only decides which channel that message points at. A channel is named on purpose: most people who are stuck get helped by another member rather than a commissioner.
- I can't see this setting. The card will say your league owner has not given you these channels to change. Ask them — they can grant it under Front Office → League Access.
