How do I set up Game of the Week?

Game of the Week is a tab on the Gameday Hub. Set up your game channels first, pick the Public post channel on the Game of the Week tab, then use /gotw post in Discord to choose the week and matchup and open voting.

Where to find it

On the website: click Gameday in the sidebar, then the Game of the Week tab at the top of the page.

In the app: tap More, then Gameday, then pick Game of the Week from the Gameday sections dropdown.

It used to live inside the old Betting pages. It moved to the Gameday Hub so it no longer disappears when betting or XP is switched off.

What this tab is for

Once a week you pick one matchup and it becomes the main event: a matchup card posts in your chosen channel, members pick who they think wins, and when the game is played the winner is announced and correct picks are paid in XP.

The settings sit on the Roles and Channels card:

  • Public post channel — where the matchup card and voting go. This is the only setting that is required.
  • Admin role — who, besides commissioners, is allowed to run /gotw post.
  • Finals channel (optional) — if you want the final result posted somewhere different. Leave it blank and the result posts in the same channel as the card.
  • Admin channel (optional) — a private channel for the admin buttons.
  • Post the final result — on unless you turn it off. Off, picks are still graded and paid and nothing is posted. While it is off, a blank Finals channel does not fall back to the card's channel either.
  • Post the admin card — on unless you turn it off. Off, no admin card is posted.

Below the settings you can see the Current Game of the Week and your Past Weeks, with how each matchup went.

Step by step

  1. Set up your game channels first. Game of the Week will not run without them — if they are missing, the top of the tab says so and gives you a button that takes you straight to the Game Channels tab.
  2. On the Game of the Week tab, set the Public post channel and press Save Game of the Week settings.
  3. In Discord, run /gotw post.
  4. Choose the week, then the matchup, and post it. The card goes to the channel you picked and voting opens.
  5. When the game finishes, the winner is announced and correct picks are paid out.

Do I need XP or Betting switched on?

No. Game of the Week works with both switched off — there is no separate on/off switch for it at all.

The only thing XP affects is the reward. With XP switched off the matchup still posts, members still vote, and the winner is still announced — the correct picks just don't get paid. The tab says so at the top when that is the case.

A correct pick normally pays 50 XP. Change that in the XP Hub on the Earning tab, under XP For Winning Things.

Common problems

  • Nothing posted for members. The most common cause is that your game channels are not set up. The tab says so at the top, with a button to fix it. After that, check the Public post channel is still set — if the channel was deleted, the setting points at nothing.
  • The result never posted. Post the final result is switched off. Everybody who picked correctly was still paid — only the announcement stopped.
  • Somebody else needs to post it. Whoever holds the Admin role on the Roles and Channels card can run /gotw post. They do not need to be a commissioner.
  • Nobody got XP for a correct pick. That's expected when the XP system is switched off. Turn on XP in the Features Hub if you want picks to pay out.
  • A commissioner can't see this tab. What a helper sees is decided by the owner in Front Office → League Access.
