In a thrilling Week 1 matchup, the Washington Commanders defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 80-45, showcasing their offensive prowess right out of the gate in the 2026 season. With both teams looking to set the tone for the year, the Commanders made a powerful statement with their dominant performance. Robert Griffin III was the standout for Washington, throwing for an impressive 397 yards and five touchdowns while also leading the team with 377 rushing yards. His dual-threat capability kept the Eagles' defense off balance all game long, while De'Von Achane of Philadelphia did his best to keep his team in the contest with a remarkable 222 receiving yards. Defensively, the Commanders' Brian Branch made a critical interception that shifted momentum in the second half. Although the Eagles' Kwity Paye recorded three sacks and Cody Barton tallied six tackles, it wasn’t enough to contain Griffin's explosive playmaking ability. The turning point came after Branch's interception, allowing Washington to capitalize and extend their lead, ultimately sealing the victory.
