How do I set the league-wide limits?
League-wide limits are the caps everybody follows unless a team has its own. There is no Limits page any more — each cap is a card inside the tab of the feature it belongs to, with its own Save button. Out of the box nothing is capped until you cap it.
Where the league-wide caps live
Most caps live in the XP Hub, each on the tab of the thing it caps:
- Upgrades tab — Attribute Upgrades, Dev Upgrades, and the roll caps for leagues on the roll-for-it upgrade mode.
- Wheel Spin tab — Bronze Spins, Silver Spins and Gold Spins.
- Betting tab — Bets Placed and Parlays Placed.
- Earning tab — Hall Of Fame Nominations.
Trade caps live in the Teams Hub, on the Trades tab, in the Trade Limits card — Trade Offers Sent, Approved Trades, and Trade-Block Listings.
The full map, and the step-by-step for filling a cap card in, is in Where limits live now.
How a cap card in the XP Hub works
Every cap is its own card. Switch Put A Cap On This on — off means as many times as they like — then give it at least one way of counting:
- By the clock — switch on Cap It By The Clock and fill in How Many Times and Over How Many Hours. It is a rolling window: always "in the last 24 hours", never "since Monday".
- By game time — open the Game-Time Caps drawer and fill in Most Per Madden Week or Most Per Madden Season. A 0 means no cap on that one. These start over when your Madden league moves to the next week or season.
You only need one of the two — the card says so. Then pick Who The Cap Counts — Each person, Each team, or The whole league — and press Save This Cap.
The rules that catch people out
- A cap with no clock and no Madden limit switches itself off. This is the one that gets reported as a bug. Flick the cap ON with nothing to count, and after the save it is OFF again — a limit with nothing to count would let every use through, so the card puts itself back and tells you so. Turn on at least one way of counting in the same save.
- Some caps count more than one way at once. A card like that shows each count as its own row — Cap 1, Cap 2 — and says "All must allow it". A member has to be under every one of them.
- Some caps say "This one has no reset button on purpose." That is not a fault — those caps are meant to stand for the season.
- Trades count for both teams. One trade offer uses a slot for the team sending it and a slot for the team receiving it.
The trade caps are worded a little differently
The Trade Limits card on Teams → Trades uses a shorter form: Cap on, then "At most ___ every ___ hours", counted per (team, person, or whole league), and over the cap — blocks it, or warns only if you want the action to go through with a warning. Each row saves on its own Save button.
Once a team hits its cap for approved trades, that team cannot complete any more until the count starts over.
Dev upgrades have an extra season cap
On the XP Hub's Upgrades tab, under How Many Dev Upgrades Per Season, three boxes — Star, Superstar and X-Factor — cap how many dev upgrades into each tier a team can buy in a Madden season. Zero in a box means no limit on that tier.
What members see
Members run /limits in Discord to see what they have used and what they have left.
One team on different numbers
A team's own limit wins over the league-wide one — they are never added together. To give a single team its own numbers, see How do I give one team its own limits?.
Common problems
- My change didn't take effect. Every cap card saves on its own. Check you pressed the Save button on the card you edited.
- I filled in a number and nothing is being stopped. The cap's own switch at the top of the card is separate from the numbers. Both have to be on.
- This switch keeps turning itself back off. You are saving the cap ON with nothing to count. Turn on the clock or fill in a Game-Time Cap in the same save.
- Members hit the cap far sooner than I expected. Check Who The Cap Counts. Each person gives everyone that many; The whole league is that many shared between everybody.
- A limit applies to a team I wanted to exempt. Give that team its own limit — see Team Limits.
- I can see the caps but saving is refused. Cap editing is its own permission. Ask the licence owner to grant it to you in Front Office → League Access.
