What it does

/power_rankings builds and posts the league's Weekly Power Rankings embed. It pulls the current standings from your linked Madden export, sorts by record + net points + tiebreakers, then writes a one-paragraph blurb per team — rank movement (up/down/no-change from last week), record, points for/against, net pts, off/def rank, turnover diff, and the next two opponents.

Each post is pinged with @everyone, so it doubles as the league's weekly engagement beat. Rankings are saved to history (power_rank_history collection) so the next week's post can render the correct movement arrows.

How to use

/power_rankings week:<1-18> [top:<1-32>]

Options

  • week — regular-season week the rankings cover (1–18, required).
  • top — how many teams to include. Defaults to 10. Max 32 (the whole league).

Examples

  • /power_rankings week:7 — post the top 10 for Week 7.
  • /power_rankings week:14 top:16 — post the top 16 heading into the playoff push.
  • /power_rankings week:18 top:32 — post a full-league ranking for the season finale.

Notes

  • Admin only. The command requires the Discord Administrator permission bit. Non-admins see an "❌ You need Administrator" reject.
  • Visibility gate. If the personalization dashboard has Power Rankings set to hidden, the Discord post is blocked even for admins. Flip the toggle in the dashboard's Personalization → Surfaces panel.
  • Newswire event. Each successful post emits a power_rankings_published event for the league's Twitter/news feed (top 3 + total team count).
  • AI blurbs are rate-limited and waved through in batches to keep the prompt budget predictable. If OpenAI is down, the post still goes out — blurbs just fall back to the stat-only line.

Common questions

Q: My ranking arrows are wrong (or missing). A: Movement is computed by diffing against power_rank_history for the previous week. If you skipped a week (e.g. ran /power_rankings week:9 without ever running week 8), week 9 has nothing to diff against and shows no arrows. Just keep running it weekly going forward.

Q: The post pinged @everyone — can I turn that off? A: Not via the command. If your league prefers a quieter post, hide the surface in the personalization dashboard and re-post from a non-Discord surface (the dashboard's Power Rankings page renders the same data without a ping).

Q: Top-N includes a team that hasn't played yet. A: Standings are exported as of the most recent Companion app push. Push a fresh export from the Madden Companion app, then re-run /power_rankings for the freshest numbers.

Q: Can I post mid-week? A: Yes — there's no calendar lock. Just pick the week you want as the week arg. Most commishes post Tuesday after the slate finalizes.
