In an exciting season opener, the Portland Dragons narrowly defeated the Phoenix Inferno with a final score of 35-27. Both teams showcased their talent, but the Dragons managed to hold off the Inferno, setting the tone for what promises to be a competitive 2026 season. Josh Allen was the standout performer for the Inferno, throwing for an impressive 325 yards and three touchdowns, but it wasn't enough to secure the win. On the ground, Jonathan Taylor led the charge for the Dragons with 98 rushing yards, helping to keep the offense balanced. Dawson Knox also shined in the receiving game for Phoenix, amassing 125 yards, but his efforts fell short in the face of Portland's resilience. Defensively, the Dragons made crucial stops, with Jer'Zhan Newton recording a key sack that shifted momentum in their favor. Although the Inferno's Bobby Okereke led all players with 10 tackles, it was Portland’s ability to create pressure that made a significant difference. The turning point came late in the fourth quarter when the Dragons' defense held the Inferno on a critical fourth down, allowing them to maintain their lead and secure the victory.
