In a decisive Week 16 matchup, the Boise Elks topped the Billings Lumberjacks 27-13, solidifying their playoff aspirations as the regular season winds down. The Elks showcased their dominance with a well-rounded performance, while the Lumberjacks struggled to find their rhythm on both sides of the ball. Offensively, James Cook III led the charge for Boise with 88 rushing yards, effectively controlling the ground game and complementing Ja'Marr Chase's 86 receiving yards. Quarterback play was critical as well, with the Elks maintaining a balanced attack that kept the Lumberjacks' defense on their heels. Collin Caldwell of Billings threw for 212 yards and a touchdown, but it wasn't enough to spark a comeback. Defensively, the Elks made their mark with a strong performance, highlighted by D.J. Wonnum's sack and Kyler Gordon's interception, which shifted the momentum firmly in Boise's favor. The turning point came late in the second quarter when Gordon's pick set up a crucial Elks touchdown, extending their lead to a comfortable margin and leaving the Lumberjacks to chase the game for the remainder. The Elks' defense effectively contained Billings' offense, ensuring a well-deserved victory.
