In a thrilling season opener, the Washington Commanders narrowly defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 20-17 in a tightly contested matchup. With both teams looking to make an early statement in the 2026 season, the stakes were high, and the Commanders managed to hold off a late surge from their rivals. Baker Mayfield led the charge for Washington, throwing for 256 yards and showcasing his ability to connect with star receiver Terry McLaurin, who racked up an impressive 136 receiving yards. Meanwhile, Spencer Rattler kept the Eagles competitive with two touchdown passes, but it was Jonathan Taylor's ground game, totaling 82 rushing yards, that kept Philadelphia in the mix. Defensively, the Commanders were relentless, with Devin Bush leading the team with 10 total tackles and Zach Harrison contributing with a critical sack. The turning point came late in the fourth quarter, when Trent McDuffie intercepted a pass that could have shifted momentum back to the Eagles, but the Commanders' defense held strong, securing the victory and a solid start to their season.
