In a decisive Week 1 matchup of the 2028 season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers topped the Carolina Panthers with a final score of 31-10. The victory sets a strong tone for the Buccaneers as they look to make a statement early in the season, while the Panthers will need to regroup after a challenging opener. Baker Mayfield led the Buccaneers' offense with precision, throwing for two touchdowns and showcasing his ability to connect with receivers under pressure. Meanwhile, Bucky Irving stole the show on the ground, racking up an impressive 191 rushing yards, which allowed Tampa Bay to dominate time of possession and control the tempo of the game. Carolina's Bryce Young put up 178 passing yards and found some success, but it wasn’t enough to keep pace with the explosive Buccaneers offense. Defensively, the Buccaneers made critical plays to secure their victory, highlighted by Devin Lloyd's standout performance with two interceptions that thwarted any potential scoring drives by Carolina. The game's turning point came in the second quarter when Lloyd's first interception set up a quick touchdown for Tampa Bay, shifting momentum firmly in their favor. As the defense tightened its grip, the Buccaneers effectively shut down the Panthers' offense, leading to a comfortable win.
