In a thrilling season opener for the 2026 campaign, the Cleveland Browns narrowly defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars, 35-31. Both teams showcased their offensive firepower, but it was Cleveland that ultimately secured the win in a tightly contested matchup that had playoff implications written all over it. Brock Purdy led the Jaguars with an impressive performance, throwing for 278 yards and three touchdowns, making it clear he’s ready to take the reins this season. On the other side, Chris Johnson contributed significantly to the Browns' ground game with 73 rushing yards, while Jaxon Smith-Njigba emerged as a standout receiver for Jacksonville, racking up 161 yards through the air. Defensively, Quinyon Mitchell made his presence felt for Cleveland, recording five total tackles, but it was Nolan Smith Jr. who provided the critical defensive push with a key sack. This defensive play helped swing momentum in favor of the Browns at a pivotal moment, allowing them to hold off the Jaguars' late-game surge and clinch the victory.
