In a commanding performance to kick off the 2026 season, the Detroit Lions topped the New Orleans Saints 42-7. With playoff aspirations on their minds, the Lions showcased their dominance, setting the tone for what they hope will be a successful campaign. Quarterback Jared Goff led the charge with 156 passing yards and two touchdown passes, effectively orchestrating the offense. However, it was running back Jahmyr Gibbs who stole the show, racking up an impressive 276 rushing yards, leaving defenders in his wake. Wide receiver Jameson Williams contributed with 63 receiving yards, helping to keep the Saints' defense off balance throughout the game. The Lions' defense played a pivotal role in this lopsided affair, with D.J. Reed leading the charge with three total tackles. Aidan Hutchinson added pressure with a sack, while Kerby Joseph’s interception stifled any chance of a Saints comeback. The turning point came early in the second half when Joseph's pick halted a promising drive for New Orleans, allowing Detroit to extend their lead and ultimately seal the victory.
