In a thrilling season opener, the New Orleans Saints narrowly defeated the Detroit Lions 28-27, kicking off the 2026 season with a nail-biter. Both teams fought hard, but it was the Saints who ultimately emerged victorious, securing a crucial early win in their pursuit of playoff aspirations. Sam Darnold led the charge for New Orleans, throwing for 295 yards and a touchdown, showcasing his ability to command the offense. TreVeyon Henderson was a force on the ground, racking up 131 rushing yards, while Terry McLaurin proved to be Darnold's go-to target with 133 receiving yards. This trio was instrumental in keeping the chains moving and putting points on the board. Defensively, the Lions had some standout performances, with Night Train Lane leading the team with five total tackles. However, it was a late touchdown drive from the Saints that became the game's turning point, ultimately sealing their victory. The Lions' defense, including a sack from Travon Walker and an interception by Tyrice Knight, put forth a valiant effort, but it wasn't enough to secure the win as New Orleans held on for the close victory.
