The Washington Commanders opened their 2026 season with a commanding 24-7 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. This matchup was crucial for both teams as they aimed to establish an early foothold in the NFC East. The Commanders showcased their dominance, leaving no doubt about their ambitions for the season ahead. Jayden Daniels was the standout for Washington, throwing for 229 yards and two touchdowns. His performance was pivotal in leading the Commanders' offense, as he efficiently moved the ball downfield and found the end zone when it mattered most. Jacory Croskey-Merritt added to the offensive success with a solid 68 rushing yards, complementing Daniels' aerial attack. On the defensive side, the Commanders made a significant impact, particularly through Tyler Owens, who recorded two interceptions that stifled any momentum the Eagles tried to build. The game's turning point came when Owens picked off a pass during a critical moment in the second quarter, shifting the momentum firmly in Washington's favor. Despite strong efforts from the Eagles' Cooper DeJean and Jonathan Greenard, the Commanders' defense proved too formidable, sealing the win with their ability to create turnovers and pressure the opposing offense.
