In a strong season opener, the Denver Broncos topped the Kansas City Chiefs 28-16, marking a promising start for the 2026 campaign. Both teams entered the game looking to establish early momentum, but it was the Broncos who seized the advantage and held on for the victory. Malik Willis led the Chiefs' offensive efforts, throwing for 259 yards and two touchdowns, showcasing his playmaking ability. Despite the loss, Willis connected well with his top target, Sam LaPorta, who registered 94 receiving yards. On the ground, Justin Fields paced the Broncos' rushing attack with 37 yards, contributing to their balanced offensive performance. Defensively, the Broncos made their mark with crucial plays, highlighted by Reed Blankenship's two interceptions that shifted the momentum in Denver's favor. Jeremy Chinn's six tackles provided a steady presence, while James Pearce Jr. added a sack to disrupt the Chiefs' rhythm. The turning point came late in the second quarter when Blankenship's first interception set up a touchdown, allowing the Broncos to extend their lead and ultimately secure the win.
