In a strong start to the 2026 season, the Detroit Lions topped the New Orleans Saints with a final score of 35-20. This Week 1 matchup set the tone for both teams, as the Lions looked to establish themselves as a playoff contender while the Saints aimed to rebound from last season's disappointments. Jared Goff led the charge for Detroit, throwing for 208 yards and two touchdowns, showcasing his ability to find the end zone when it mattered most. Meanwhile, Jahmyr Gibbs was a force on the ground, racking up an impressive 174 rushing yards, while Jameson Williams contributed significantly with 79 receiving yards, helping to keep the Saints' defense on its heels throughout the game. Defensively, the Lions were bolstered by Roger McCreary's timely interception, which turned the momentum in their favor. Detroit's defense also pressured New Orleans effectively, with Chuck Clark leading the team in tackles and showcasing their commitment to stopping the run. The game shifted dramatically when McCreary's interception led to a quick touchdown, allowing the Lions to pull away and secure the victory.
