In an exciting season opener, the Detroit Lions topped the New Orleans Saints 24-17, kicking off the 2026 campaign with a crucial victory. Both teams aimed to set a strong tone for the season, but it was the Lions who outlasted the Saints on their home turf. Jared Goff led the Lions' offense with precision, throwing for two touchdowns and effectively managing the game. Jahmyr Gibbs contributed a solid ground game with 71 rushing yards, while the Saints' Tyler Shough showcased his arm talent, amassing 270 passing yards, and Chris Olave dazzled with 129 receiving yards despite the loss. Defensively, Tyleik Williams was a standout for the Lions, recording 1.5 sacks that disrupted the Saints' offensive rhythm. The turning point came late in the fourth quarter when Williams' pressure led to a crucial turnover, allowing Detroit to seize control and ultimately secure the win. Chase Young's seven tackles for New Orleans kept them in the game, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Lions' defensive resilience when it mattered most.
