In a thrilling Week 1 matchup of the 2027 season, the Las Vegas Raiders narrowly defeated the Houston Texans with a final score of 31-27. The game showcased both teams' aspirations for a strong start to the season, making every point critical in this hard-fought battle. Las Vegas quarterback Fernando Mendoza was the standout performer, tossing three touchdown passes and guiding his team to key scoring drives. Houston’s C.J. Stroud matched him in yardage with 249 passing yards, but it was the combination of Mendoza’s efficiency and the Raiders’ offensive balance that ultimately secured the win. Kewan Lacy contributed significantly on the ground for the Texans, racking up 91 rushing yards, while Nico Collins led the receiving corps with 81 yards. Defensively, the Raiders made critical plays that turned the tide of the game. Derrick Brown's sack put pressure on Stroud when it mattered most, while Brian Branch's interception shifted momentum back to Las Vegas late in the contest. The Raiders' ability to capitalize on those defensive opportunities proved to be the game’s turning point, allowing them to hold off the Texans in a nail-biting finish.
