In a high-octane opening to the 2026 season, the Los Angeles Rams topped the San Francisco 49ers with a decisive 45-31 victory. Both teams came into this Week 1 matchup looking to set the tone for the year, but it was the Rams who delivered a statement win on their home turf. Matthew Stafford lit up the scoreboard, throwing for 283 yards and four touchdowns, showcasing his precision and command of the offense. Christian McCaffrey had a standout performance for the 49ers, rushing for 140 yards, while De'Zhaun Stribling added 118 receiving yards. Despite their efforts, it was the Rams' offensive firepower that ultimately proved too much for San Francisco. On the defensive side, the Rams were relentless, especially with Byron Young, who recorded two sacks and consistently pressured the quarterback. Kam Curl added a crucial interception that shifted momentum in the second half, while Trent McDuffie's five total tackles helped contain the 49ers' explosive plays. The turning point came midway through the third quarter when Curl's interception set up another quick score, extending the Rams' lead and putting them firmly in control of the game.
