In a thrilling season opener, the Austin Gunslingers topped the Houston Comets with a final score of 35-20. Both teams were eager to start the 2027 season on a high note, but it was the Gunslingers who came out firing on all cylinders to secure the victory at home. Phillip Graham showcased his quarterback prowess by throwing for four touchdowns, leading the Gunslingers' offensive charge. Jalen Royals was a standout in the receiving game, racking up an impressive 135 yards, while the Comets' Emmanuel Ancrum put up solid numbers with 263 passing yards but struggled to keep pace with Graham's efficiency. Saquon Barkley contributed on the ground for Houston with 45 rushing yards, but the team's offensive rhythm was often disrupted. On the defensive side, the Gunslingers made key plays that proved crucial to their win. Gabe Jacas was a force with two sacks, pressuring Ancrum and forcing hurried throws. Khaleke Hudson led the team with four total tackles, helping to keep the Comets' offense in check. The turning point came in the second quarter when the Gunslingers scored back-to-back touchdowns, establishing a lead that they would not relinquish for the remainder of the game.
