In a decisive start to the 2027 season, the Phoenix Inferno topped the Tokyo Thunderwolves with a commanding 45-20 victory. This win sets a strong tone for the Inferno, who look to build momentum as they strive for a playoff run early in the year. Josh Allen led the offensive charge for Phoenix, throwing for three touchdowns and showcasing his ability to connect with his receivers, particularly Brock Bowers, who racked up an impressive 159 receiving yards. Brashard Smith contributed on the ground with 64 rushing yards, providing a balanced attack that kept the Thunderwolves' defense on their heels throughout the game. Defensively, Talanoa Hufanga was a standout for the Inferno, not only leading the team with five tackles but also snagging an interception that proved pivotal in shifting momentum. The turning point came late in the second quarter when Hufanga's interception set up another touchdown for Phoenix, extending their lead and leaving Tokyo scrambling to recover. The Inferno's defense consistently pressured Tokyo's offense, limiting their effectiveness and securing the win.
