In a thrilling season opener, the Detroit Lions topped the New Orleans Saints with a final score of 35-21, marking a strong start to their 2026 campaign. The Lions showcased their offensive prowess while the Saints struggled to keep pace, setting the tone for an exciting year ahead. Malik Willis led the charge for Detroit, throwing for 285 yards and three touchdowns, demonstrating both precision and power in the passing game. Calvin Johnson emerged as his favorite target, racking up 151 receiving yards and proving to be a crucial player in the Lions' offensive strategy. Meanwhile, Travis Etienne Jr. managed to put up an impressive 151 rushing yards for the Saints, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Detroit’s offensive firepower. Defensively, the Lions were impactful, with Avonte Maddox recording three total tackles and Aidan Hutchinson contributing with a key sack. Damone Clark’s interception was particularly pivotal, halting a potential scoring drive from the Saints and shifting momentum back to Detroit. This defensive stand not only solidified the Lions' lead but also highlighted their ability to make crucial plays when it mattered most.
