In a thrilling season opener, the Denver Broncos narrowly defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 31-27, setting the tone for a competitive 2026 campaign. Both teams showcased their talents, but it was the Broncos who made the crucial plays when it mattered most, securing a vital early victory in the division. Bo Nix led the Broncos' offensive charge with three touchdown passes, effectively spreading the ball around to keep the Chiefs' defense guessing. J.K. Dobbins added a strong ground game, rushing for 84 yards and providing balance to the attacking strategy. Meanwhile, Kansas City's Patrick Mahomes put on a show with 422 passing yards and a touchdown, but it wasn't enough to clinch the win. Defensively, the Broncos made key stops at critical moments, with Brandon Jones leading the team with six tackles and Pat Surtain II snagging an interception that shifted momentum in the second half. Zach Allen's sack was pivotal, disrupting Mahomes just when the Chiefs were gaining traction. The game's turning point came late in the fourth quarter when Surtain's interception set up a touchdown drive, allowing Denver to pull ahead for good.
