In a hard-fought battle in Week 6 of the 2026 season, the San Francisco 49ers topped the Washington Commanders with a final score of 14-7. The victory keeps the 49ers in contention for a strong playoff position, while the Commanders face questions about their ability to keep pace in a competitive conference. Brock Purdy led the 49ers’ offense, throwing for 145 yards and two touchdowns, showcasing his ability to make critical plays when it mattered most. Christian McCaffrey was a standout on the ground, racking up 118 rushing yards and proving to be a constant threat to the Commanders' defense. Meanwhile, Terry McLaurin kept the Commanders in the game with 75 receiving yards, but it wasn’t enough to secure a victory. Defensively, Osa Odighizuwa made his mark with a key sack, putting pressure on the Commanders’ offense and disrupting their rhythm. The turning point came late in the second quarter when Purdy connected with a receiver for a touchdown, giving San Francisco a lead they would not relinquish. Despite a strong defensive performance from Sonny Styles, who recorded four tackles and an interception, the Commanders could not overcome the 49ers' balanced attack.
