In a commanding performance to kick off the 2026 season, the Detroit Lions topped the New Orleans Saints 38-14, showcasing their dominance at home. With both teams aiming to make a statement early in the season, the Lions delivered a resounding victory that sets the tone for their campaign ahead. On the offensive side, Tyler Shough of the Saints stood out with a robust passing performance, racking up 309 yards and throwing two touchdowns. Despite the loss, Shough's connection with receiver Jordyn Tyson, who amassed 119 receiving yards, highlighted the Saints' potential for explosive plays. Travis Etienne Jr. also contributed on the ground, leading the team with 75 rushing yards, but it wasn't enough to keep pace with the Lions' offensive onslaught. Defensively, the Lions were relentless, with Aidan Hutchinson leading the charge by recording an impressive 3.5 sacks, disrupting Shough's rhythm throughout the game. The turning point came in the second quarter when Kerby Joseph intercepted a key pass, shifting momentum firmly in favor of Detroit. The Lions' defense consistently pressured the Saints, ultimately stifling their offensive efforts and securing a decisive Week 1 victory.
