In a commanding Week 1 opener for the 2026 season, the Washington Commanders defeated the Philadelphia Eagles by a score of 34-14. This victory sets a strong tone for the Commanders as they look to establish themselves early in the season while the Eagles aim to regroup for their upcoming matchups. Leading the offensive charge for Washington was quarterback Jayden Daniels, who threw for 224 yards and three touchdowns, showcasing his ability to connect with receivers downfield. Tight end Darren Waller was a standout, racking up an impressive 146 receiving yards, creating mismatches against the Eagles' secondary. Meanwhile, Tank Bigsby of the Eagles was the lone bright spot on the ground, accumulating 65 rushing yards but couldn't lift his team to victory. Defensively, the Eagles struggled to contain the Commanders' offense, allowing big plays that shifted momentum in Washington's favor. The game's turning point came in the second quarter when Daniels threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to Waller, extending the Commanders' lead to 21-7. With the Eagles unable to respond adequately, the Commanders' defense held firm, allowing Philadelphia only one touchdown in the second half, sealing the win decisively.
