In a tightly contested season opener, the Chicago Bears narrowly defeated the Carolina Panthers 17-10, kicking off the 2026 season with a promising start. Both teams battled intensely, but the Bears emerged victorious, setting the tone for their campaign ahead. Caleb Williams led the Bears offensively, throwing for a touchdown while managing 160 passing yards. Walter Payton was the standout on the ground, racking up 90 rushing yards and providing the Bears with crucial offensive stability. On the Panthers' side, Cam Newton put together a solid performance with 183 passing yards but couldn't find the end zone. Defensively, the Bears made a significant impact with Jaylon Johnson's key interception, which helped shift momentum in their favor. Isaiah Simmons led the Panthers with six tackles, but it was Derrick Brown's lone sack that highlighted Carolina’s defensive efforts. The turning point came late in the fourth quarter when Johnson's pick halted a potential game-tying drive, sealing the Bears' victory.
