In an electrifying season opener, the Detroit Lions secured a thrilling 49-38 victory over the New Orleans Saints, marking a strong start to the 2026 campaign. Both teams came in looking to set the tone for the season, but it was the Lions who emerged victorious in this high-scoring affair. James Burnip led the charge for Detroit, throwing for an impressive 387 yards and connecting on four touchdown passes. He found his favorite target, Garrett Wilson, who racked up 125 receiving yards, consistently stretching the field and making key catches. Meanwhile, Kyle Monangai contributed to the ground game with 66 rushing yards, helping to keep the Saints' defense off balance throughout the game. Defensively, the Lions were led by Haloti Ngata, who recorded seven total tackles, providing crucial stops to halt the Saints' momentum. The turning point came late in the third quarter when Yasir Abdullah sacked the Saints' quarterback, forcing a pivotal turnover that allowed Detroit to extend their lead. The Lions' defense may not have been dominant, but timely plays and critical tackles made all the difference in this hard-fought victory.
