In a thrilling Wildcard Round matchup, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers narrowly defeated the New Orleans Saints by a score of 28-25, advancing to the next stage of the playoffs in the 2026 season. Both teams fought hard, but it was the Buccaneers who ultimately came out on top, securing their place in the postseason with a well-rounded performance. Baker Mayfield led the Buccaneers' offense with a strong passing game, racking up 253 yards and contributing to the scoreboard. He connected with Ted Hurst III for 85 receiving yards, while the Saints' J.J. McCarthy kept pace with three touchdown passes, showcasing his ability to lead under pressure. However, it was Tampa Bay's balanced attack that ultimately made the difference, as they managed to control the tempo of the game. Defensively, the Saints put up a valiant effort, with Chase Young standing out by tallying 2.5 sacks, putting constant pressure on Mayfield. Lorenzo Styles Jr. anchored the defense with five total tackles, but it was an interception by Isaiah Bolden that momentarily shifted momentum. The turning point came in the fourth quarter when the Buccaneers' defense tightened up, forcing the Saints to settle for a field goal instead of a potential game-winning touchdown, sealing the victory for Tampa Bay.
