In a thrilling Week 1 matchup of the 2026 season, the San Francisco 49ers topped the Los Angeles Rams 29-18, kicking off their campaign with a strong performance. The stakes were high as both teams aimed to set the tone for the season, but it was the 49ers who emerged victorious in this division clash. Matthew Stafford had a standout performance for the Rams, throwing for 294 yards and two touchdowns, but it wasn't enough to secure the win. On the 49ers' side, Brock Purdy led the ground attack with 56 rushing yards while George Kittle was a key target in the passing game, racking up 96 receiving yards. Their contributions helped San Francisco maintain control throughout the contest. Defensively, the 49ers made their presence felt, with Alfred Collins registering a crucial sack that disrupted the Rams' offensive rhythm. Although Nate Landman led all defenders with seven tackles for Los Angeles, it was Collins' pivotal play that shifted momentum and underscored San Francisco's defensive resilience. The combination of timely defensive stops and effective offensive execution ultimately defined the game, allowing the 49ers to hold off a late Rams surge.
