The Kansas City Chiefs secured a decisive 28-13 victory over the Carolina Panthers in Week 5 of the 2028 season, further solidifying their position in the playoff race. With this win, the Chiefs move to 4-1, while the Panthers fall to 2-3, putting additional pressure on their quest for postseason contention. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had a standout performance, throwing for 329 yards and three touchdowns, showcasing his elite skills under pressure. He found Zachariah Branch multiple times, resulting in a stunning 200 receiving yards that kept the Panthers' defense on its heels. Meanwhile, Rico Dowdle led Carolina's ground attack with 57 rushing yards, but it wasn't enough to keep pace with Kansas City's explosive offense. Defensively, the Chiefs were dominant, with Nick Bolton leading the charge with six total tackles, while Jason Weaver added 1.5 sacks to disrupt Carolina's rhythm. The turning point came late in the first half when Mahomes connected with Branch for a 75-yard touchdown, propelling the Chiefs to a commanding lead that the Panthers could not recover from. Despite Dorian Williams’ interception for Carolina, the Chiefs' defense effectively stifled any comeback attempts.
