In a thrilling season opener, the Los Angeles Rams narrowly defeated the San Francisco 49ers with a final score of 34-28. Both teams came into Week 1 looking to set the tone for the 2026 season, but it was the Rams who emerged victorious in this tightly contested matchup. Matthew Stafford led the Rams' offense with an impressive 281 passing yards, while Kyren Williams added a solid ground game, racking up 95 rushing yards. Puka Nacua was the standout in the receiving corps, catching passes for a total of 159 yards, proving to be a crucial target for Stafford. Although Brock Purdy threw three touchdown passes for San Francisco, it wasn't enough to secure the win. Defensively, the Rams were able to disrupt Purdy's rhythm, with Josaiah Stewart recording a key sack that contributed to the pressure on the 49ers' quarterback. Fred Warner's 11 total tackles highlighted San Francisco's defensive effort, but the game turned when the Rams' defense held strong in the final moments, preventing any late-game heroics from the 49ers and sealing the victory.
