In a dominating display, the Washington Commanders overwhelmed the New York Jets with a final score of 70-35 in Week 1 of the 2027 season. This matchup set the tone for the Commanders' aspirations this year, showcasing their offensive firepower and defensive prowess right out of the gate. Leading the charge for Washington was quarterback Dak Prescott, who lit up the field with an astonishing 621 passing yards and a record-setting 10 touchdown passes. He found his favorite target in Dont'e Thornton Jr., who racked up 604 receiving yards, making it a lethal combination for the Jets' defense to contend with. On the ground, Cam Skattebo was the standout for New York, but his 51 rushing yards paled in comparison to the Commanders' aerial assault. The Commanders' defense played a crucial role in this commanding victory, with Decamerion Richardson leading the team with eight tackles. Peter Woods added pressure with a sack, while Zah Frazier secured a pivotal interception. The turning point came midway through the second quarter when Frazier's pick halted a Jets drive, allowing Washington to capitalize and extend their lead, ultimately sealing the game.
