In a thrilling Week 3 matchup of the 2028 season, the Detroit Lions narrowly defeated the Washington Commanders by a score of 36-34. Both teams were looking to establish momentum early in the season, but it was the Lions who came out on top in a game that featured explosive offensive performances on both sides. Kamario Taylor led the way for the Commanders, throwing for an impressive 340 yards and three touchdowns. However, it was James Cook III of the Lions who stole the show, racking up a staggering 182 rushing yards, providing the ground game that proved crucial for Detroit. Dont'e Thornton Jr. also had a standout performance for Washington, collecting 211 receiving yards, showcasing his big-play ability throughout the contest. Defensively, the Lions made key stops when it mattered most, with Andrew Mukuba leading the charge with five tackles. A pivotal moment came when Trent McDuffie intercepted a pass, halting a late-game drive by the Commanders and allowing Detroit to maintain their slim lead. Despite a strong effort from the Washington defense, including a sack by LeBob James, it was the Lions' timely defensive plays that ultimately secured their victory.
