The Carolina Panthers opened the 2028 season with an impressive 42-23 victory over the Atlanta Falcons. This win sets the tone for both teams as they look to establish themselves early in the season. The Panthers showcased their offensive prowess, turning in a dynamic performance that left the Falcons struggling to keep pace. Cam Ward led the charge for Carolina, throwing for three touchdown passes and keeping the Falcons' defense on their heels. Antonio Williams was a standout in the receiving game, racking up 112 yards and providing a reliable target for Ward. Meanwhile, J.J. McCarthy of Atlanta did his best to respond with 280 passing yards but ultimately fell short as the Falcons struggled to find a rhythm on the ground, with Jahmyr Gibbs managing only 16 rushing yards. Defensively, the Panthers made crucial plays that turned the tide of the game. A pivotal moment came when Kevin Winston Jr. intercepted a pass, halting a promising Falcons drive and shifting momentum firmly in Carolina's favor. Although Aidan Hutchinson registered a sack for Atlanta, it was the Panthers' ability to disrupt McCarthy's flow that was key in securing their dominant win.
