In a dominant Week 1 matchup, the Los Angeles Rams topped the San Francisco 49ers with a commanding score of 38-6. This victory sets the tone for the Rams’ 2026 season, showcasing their offensive firepower and defensive prowess right out of the gate. Matthew Stafford was the star of the night, throwing for an impressive 427 yards and five touchdown passes, leading the Rams to a decisive win. Puka Nacua also shined, racking up 172 receiving yards, making key catches that kept the chains moving and the defense on its heels. Christian McCaffrey, while limited in his opportunities, led the 49ers' ground game with 44 rushing yards. The Rams' defense played a crucial role in the outcome, highlighted by Byron Young's two sacks and Jaylen Watson’s two interceptions that halted any momentum the 49ers attempted to build. The turning point came in the second quarter when Watson picked off a pass, setting up another Rams touchdown that extended their lead and demoralized San Francisco. The Rams' ability to stifle the 49ers’ offense proved vital in securing this impressive victory.
