In a tightly contested season opener, the New Orleans Saints narrowly defeated the Detroit Lions 17-13. Both teams came into Week 1 looking to set the tone for the 2026 season, but it was the Saints who emerged victorious, showcasing their offensive prowess and resilience. Tyler Shough led the Saints' offense with a stellar performance, throwing for 325 yards and one touchdown. His connection with Jordan Addison was particularly noteworthy, as Addison racked up an impressive 171 receiving yards, proving to be a dynamic threat throughout the game. Travis Etienne Jr. contributed significantly on the ground, adding 68 rushing yards, which helped keep the Saints' offense balanced and effective. Defensively, Kool-Aid McKinstry was a standout for New Orleans, recording nine total tackles and playing a crucial role in limiting Detroit's scoring opportunities. The turning point came late in the fourth quarter when the Lions' drive stalled, allowing the Saints to secure the win. Despite Aidan Hutchinson's two sacks for Detroit and an interception from Marshon Lattimore, the Saints' defense held firm when it mattered most, preserving their slim lead and sealing the victory.
