In a high-scoring season opener, the New Orleans Saints topped the Detroit Lions 63-45, showcasing their offensive firepower and setting the tone for the 2026 season. Both teams were eager to start strong, but it was the Saints who emerged victorious in this shootout, leaving the Lions to regroup after a tough loss at home. Tyler Shough was the star of the night for New Orleans, throwing an impressive eight touchdown passes, while Travis Etienne Jr. added 111 rushing yards, contributing significantly to the Saints' offensive onslaught. Detroit's Jared Goff also had a standout performance, accumulating 519 passing yards, with Sam LaPorta making a mark with 215 receiving yards, but it wasn’t enough to match the Saints’ offensive output. Defensively, the Saints made crucial plays at key moments, including an interception by Jonas Sanker that shifted momentum in their favor. Kool-Aid McKinstry led the charge with five total tackles, providing necessary support against the Lions' relentless attack. Ultimately, the Saints' ability to capitalize on their scoring opportunities while stifling Detroit's late-game efforts proved to be the decisive factor in this thrilling matchup.
