The New Orleans Saints kicked off the 2026 season with a solid 28-13 victory over the Detroit Lions, setting a promising tone for the year ahead. With both teams looking to establish themselves early in the campaign, the Saints managed to secure a commanding win on the road. David Montgomery was the offensive standout for New Orleans, rushing for an impressive 115 yards and finding the end zone, showcasing the team's commitment to the ground game. Meanwhile, Jared Goff of Detroit had a notable performance, throwing for 228 yards and two touchdowns, but it wasn't enough to keep pace with the Saints' balanced attack. Sam LaPorta also contributed with 72 receiving yards, providing Goff with a reliable target. On the defensive side, the Saints made key plays that shifted momentum in their favor. Marshon Lattimore's interception proved to be a turning point, halting a potential Lions drive and allowing New Orleans to capitalize with a touchdown shortly thereafter. Jordan Howden led the Saints' defense with four total tackles, helping to stifle the Lions’ offensive efforts and secure the victory.
