In an impressive display of offensive firepower, the San Francisco 49ers defeated the Detroit Lions 48-27 in Week 9 of the 2027 season. With this victory, the 49ers solidify their position as a playoff contender, showcasing their dominance on both sides of the ball. Brock Purdy led the charge for San Francisco, throwing for 309 yards and four touchdowns, spreading the ball effectively across the field. Trey Benson was a force on the ground, racking up 206 rushing yards, while De'Zhaun Stribling contributed significantly with 94 receiving yards. This offensive onslaught allowed the 49ers to dictate the pace of the game and keep the Lions' defense on their heels. The San Francisco defense also made crucial plays, highlighted by Riq Woolen's interception that shifted momentum. The Lions struggled to respond effectively, and Aidan Hutchinson's 1.5 sacks were not enough to contain the 49ers’ explosive offense. The turning point came in the second quarter when Purdy connected with his receivers to stretch the lead, leaving Detroit scrambling to catch up.
