In a thrilling season opener, the Kansas City Chiefs topped the Denver Broncos 35-27, showcasing their offensive prowess in Week 1 of the 2026 Madden franchise season. With both teams eager to set the tone for their campaigns, the Chiefs delivered a strong performance at home, signaling their intentions early in the year. Patrick Mahomes led the charge for Kansas City, throwing for 249 yards and three touchdowns, proving once again why he’s a top-tier quarterback in the league. His connection with receiver Xavier Worthy was particularly effective, as Worthy racked up 89 receiving yards, making key catches that kept drives alive. On the other side, J.K. Dobbins shined for the Broncos with 91 rushing yards, but it wasn't enough to overcome Mahomes' aerial assault. Defensively, the game was marked by a standout performance from Patrick Surtain II of the Broncos, who recorded five total tackles, but the Chiefs' defense managed to stifle Denver's attempts to mount a comeback. The turning point came in the third quarter when Mahomes threw his third touchdown pass, giving Kansas City a critical two-score lead that proved insurmountable for the Broncos. In the end, the Chiefs demonstrated their championship pedigree, while the Broncos will need to regroup and adjust heading into their next matchup.
